        Even the intermittent rain couldn't stop the horde of people from trooping to the Dipolog Boulevard last Tuesday night, October 7, for the Coronation Night of the Miss Teen Tourism-Dipolog which was held al fresco.

        Eleven candidates representing different high schools in the city vied for the crown and the prestige of being this year's Miss Teen Tourism-Dipolog.

        This year's candidates were from the Zamboanga del Norte National High School,Saint Mary's Academy, Dipolog Community School, Galas National High School, the Andres Bonifacio College, Saint Vincent's College, the Dipolog City Institute of Technology, the Dipolog Medical Center-Science High School, Sicayab National High School, Punta National High School and Gulayon Integrated School.

PARADE BAND COMPETITION HELD

    Dipolognons were treated to an extravaganza of sights and sounds last Monday, October 6, as nine (9) contingents from the different elementary and high schools in the city took to the streets for the 4th Annual Dahunog sa Dipolog Parade Band Competition.

   Dressed in flamboyant costumes and showing off dexterous movements with their instruments, the school bands paraded from downtown Rizal Avenue through to Quezon Avenue and Gen. Luna Street and culminated at the Dipolog Boulevard where the final showdown took place.

DIPOLOG AMONG FEW “BEST PERFORMING CITIES” IN THE COUNTRY

        ImageThe City of Dipolog added another feather in its cap when it was recently cited as one of the “Best Performing Cities” in the country by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).

        This development was confirmed by City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy herself after personally receiving the award last June 4, 2008 at the Grand Ballroom Intercontinental Manila in Makati City.
        From among ninety (90) cities all over the country that were evaluated by AIM, only three cities in the entire Mindanao were acclaimed “Most Competitive” among small-sized cities.
        Aside from Dipolog City, the two other cities cited were Tagum City of Davao Province and Surigao City.

DIPOLOG IS WEALTHIEST CITY PER CAPITA

Dipolog City has once again proven itself in terms of administrative and fiscal management when the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB), in a study conducted in the later part of calendar year 2006, found Dipolog City to be the wealthiest city per capita in the whole Zamboanga Peninsula.      

        The NSCB study disclosed that only an estimated 23.15 % of the city’s population lives below the poverty line as compared to Zamboanga City and Pagadian City which has a poverty incidence of 23.81% and 27.15%, respectively.

Another honor was again extended to the City of Dipolog and its constituents after a Dipolog lass in the person of Miss Razel Marie T. Eguia, was crowned Miss Philippines-Air during the selection night of Miss Philippines-Earth 2008 Pageant held last May 11, 2008 at Crown Plaza Galeria, Manila.

        During the training period of the candidates until their presentation to the media, Miss Eguia charmed the trainors and media personalities because of her facial features fit for a beauty queen and her perfect vital statistics particularly her waistline where she was recognized as the only candidate who possessed the smallest measurement of 23 inches.

DIPOLOG “CLEAN & GREEN” PROGRAM EARNS PRAISES FROM JAPANESE VISITORS

        ImageA group of Japanese tourists belonging to the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) completed their recent visit to Dipolog City and were all praises of their wonderful experience here.
        The group who were mostly government officials of Foukuka, Japan, was in town through the invitation of OISCA-Mindanao Director, Mr. Hiroshi Ikeda.
        Mr. Ikeda is a Japanese national who married a Dipolognon and has been a resident of Dipolog City for decades now.
        A member of OISCA himself, Mr. Ikeda has been actively involved in reforestation projects of the local government of Dipolog and has been instrumental in facilitating numerous visits of Japanese OISCA members in the city for many years now.
