An earthquake drill was successfully held yesterday, February 4, 2015, in one of our elementary schools here around the city. This said activity was held specifically at Miputak Elementary School, at more or less 9:05 in the morning.
Based on the information gathered, it was learned the said activity was spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, thru its OIC, Mr. Felipe Mangila.
Mangila said, that this activity is held yearly in consonance with the directive from the Office of the Civil Defense, and also, as part of Dipolog City’s Disaster Preparedness Program, under the present leadership of City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy.
He added, that holding of activities like this each year, could create constant awareness to our people, and at the same time could give them the appropriate ideas on what to do during the actual occurrence of an earthquake.
The activity was witnessed by the different personalities coming from the different offices and agencies which served as evaluators. The composition of the group was as follows: F/Sr. Insptr. Richard Timosa – Bureau of Fire Protection; Mrs. Lerma Campaner – DILG,Dipolog; Mrs. Mercedita Clamohoy – CSWD; Mrs. Jovencia Samante – DepEd, Disaster coordinator, PIA Manager, Alfonso Ruda, Mrs. Carlou Tababan from PHILVOLCS, and Mr. Alan Francisco L. Bengua, of the City Information Office, all this city.
Based on the post-evaluation, the school children clearly showed appropriate familiarization on what to do during an occurrence of an earthquake, with the supervision of their teachers, by performing smooth execution of the “Duck, Cover and Evacuate” strategy.
With this development, the evaluators, as well as the teachers of Miputak Elementary School felt happy. They also expressed their gratitude to the evaluators and of course to Mayor Uy, for the conduct of the said activity in their school.(CIO-alb)
