Participating pupils and students of the recently concluded 2017 Quiz Bee Competition could hardly contain their happiness and gratefulness after Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy, from his personal funds, added the amount of cash prizes for the major winners of the competition and approved the cash consolation prizes for the non-winners.

It was learned that the 2017 Quiz Bee Competition was one of the activities which highlighted the celebration of the 104th Founding Anniversary held last June 28, 2017 and participated in by some 20 elementary and 20 secondary schools.

Declared Champion for the Elementary Level was Maria Alexine Alipoyo from Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation-Elementary Dept. who received a customized gold medal, P2,000.00 cash, Certificate of Recognition and an 18-inch trophy for the school from the local government; while the first runner-up was achieved by Vince Allen M. Villalon of St. Mary’s Academy-Elementary Dept. who received a silver medal, P1,500.00 cash, Certificate of Recognition and a 16-inch trophy for the school; the second runner-up was garnered by Roselyn Joy M. Silva from Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School who received P1,000.00 cash, Certificate of Recognition and a 14-inch bronze trophy for the school.

The Champion for the Secondary Level was achieved by Rhod Vincent Tayong of Sicayab National High School, while the second place went to Christian Jude A. Villalon of Dipolog City National High School, and the third place was achieved by Marjorie Mae T. Dy of Dipolog Community School.  All major winners in the secondary level received the same equivalent (in the elementary level) of its cash prizes; gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, Certificates of Recognition and trophies for their respective schools.

The official coaches of the major winners also received an honorarium from the LGU with Certificates of Recognition while non-winners (pupils and students) also received consolation prizes and Certificates of Recognition including their coaches.

In a message delivered by Mayor Darel Dexter Uy during the opening program, he exhorted the participants to be serious in their studies to increase and deepen their knowledge and develop skills that will help them in the future. Uy also encouraged them to be aware of their environment so that they can help disseminate appropriate information to their communities. Mayor Uy assured that the quiz bee activity will always be part of the celebration of Dipolog’s Founding Anniversary each year to encourage full participation from the academe. (CIO-prr)
